HENRY RICHARD STONES COLLECTION ON BRITISH, ARGENTINE AND OTHER SOUTH AMERICAN RAILWAYS

Dick Stones after training on the LNWR/LMSR spent his working life in the traffic department of the Central Argentine Rly. He served as a railway inteligence officer in the Far East during the latter part of World War 2. He retired to Eastbourne after the nationalisation of the British railways. He was a life long railway enthusiast and author of the book "British Railways in Argentina 1860:1948" and numerous articles as listed in Section B below.

C. Collection of Argentine Railway Passes

Collection of Passes donated by Mr W N Fleury of Rio Cuarto and delivered to H R Stones personally by Mr Paterson of Rolls-Royce Co on 1st February 1956. These passes had been issued to Mr George Nelson towards the end of the last century. He had been Chief Accountant of the Buenos Aires & Pacific Railway and maternal grandfather of the late Mr Fleury a former District Engineer of the Central Argentine Railway and a great friend of Mr Stones. These are supplemented by five other passes, four of which were issued to Mr Stones.

    E. BRITISH RAILWAYS IN ARGENTINA 1860-1948

    Large box containing manuscript of Mr Stones's book British Railways in Argentina 1860-1948 together with a large quantity of unsorted, mostly manufacturers and official railway photographs.

    F. ARGENTINE MEDAL COLLECTION

    Mr Stones's medal collection was sold by his widow, but Mr Stones gave BORHT one medal before he died, a bronze medal issued for the 50th Anniversary of the First Railway in Argentina.
